11 Apps Like Ibotta That Pay You To Scan Receipts

Introduction

Ibotta is one of the most popular apps out there when it comes to saving money on groceries. They’ve now expanded to more than just groceries, meaning you can also earn cash back on clothing, electronics and other popular items.

Take a picture of your receipt after you make a purchase and earn up to $5 in cash back depending on the item. Not only that, but use promo code qFTVA when you register and get a $10 after scanning your first receipt.

Other companies have taken notice and decided to develop their own version. Here are 10 other apps like Ibotta that pay you to scan receipts. See one that’s not on the list and should be? Feel free to let us know in the comments down below.

1. bevRAGE

bevrage what is

bevRAGE is a one of the receipt scanning apps that pays you specifically for alcohol purchases. Buy alcohol at restaurants, bars or convenient stores and earn cash back on wine, liquor or beer.

The amount of offers available on the app depends on the area that you’re living in. However, there are still a large number of offers that are available no matter where you live. For example, buy any 24-pack of beer and get $3 in cash back.

The amount of cash back depends on the product that you’re buying as well as how expensive it is. In general, the more money you spend the more likely you are to receive a higher amount of cash back.

Expect to earn a minimum of $1 per each receipt scanned. Get a bonus of $1 after scanning your first eligible receipt when you enter the referral code FRUGAL. The best part? It doesn’t matter where you make the purchase, just as long as your receipt is itemized and has alcohol on it.

2. Checkout 51

checkout 51 1

Next to Ibotta, Checkout 51 is one of the most popular receipt scanning apps specifically for groceries. One huge difference is that with Checkout 51, it doesn’t matter where you make the purchase. As long as your receipt lists the item for the offer that you’re claiming, you’re bound to get cash back.

The offers with Checkout 51 aren’t as abundant as Ibotta, but you can still save a few dollars on specific items. They usually have groceries such as snacks, cleaning supplies and sometimes even fruits and vegetables.

New offers are available after every Thursday morning. If you claim an offer one week, be sure to check back the following week to find it again. This can be great for frequently purchased items. You need a minimum of $10 to cash out.

3. MobiSave

mobisave what is

MobiSave is much newer to the table than Ibotta or Checkout51, but they still have some great deals. Expect to save anywhere from $.25 cents to $3 per each item that you get cash back on.

There aren’t as many offers as with other apps, but you can still find some common products such as pop tarts, coffee, jelly, eggs, windex and more. You can even browse their offers when you’re offline. If there are any new offers, they’ll appear once you have connection again.

The best part? You don’t need a minimum amount to cash out, and payments are automatically sent to your PayPal account once every 24 hours. Not only that, but you also get a $1 bonus for each friend you refer when they scan their first receipt.

4. ReceiptPal

receipt-pal-display

ReceiptPal is different from the other apps in that they pay you for your receipt rather than where you make the purchase or what you buy. This means that you can get paid for absolutely anything you buy, not just groceries like on the apps we’ve mentioned thus far.

The one downside to ReceiptPal is that the payout isn’t very high. You’re going to need to scan a lot of receipts before you’re able to make a lot of money. However, at just 350 points (4 receipts), you can still cash out for a $1 gift card.

If you’re willing to save, the more points you have the more valuable they become. There’s currently a limit to only being able to submit up to 20 receipts per week. Any receipt over 20 counts as an entry to their sweepstakes drawing.

5. Shrink

shrink code

Shrink is another receipt scanning app that pays you to specifically scan groceries. This app doesn’t have as many offers as Ibotta, but you can often find items that they don’t have. This includes turkey, Vodka and turkey burgers.

What’s really unique about this app is that the more loyalty you show toward a particular product, the more cash back you can earn. This means that if you get $.25 cents one week for something, it might be $.50 cents the next time around.

You can earn up to a few dollars in cash back per item. Use the bonus code RKVDWQ to get a bonus of $1 after you scan your first receipt. This app is expanding rapidly, and they usually have new offers available each week.

6. Yaarlo

yaarlo-what-is

Yaarlo works in a very similar way to ReceiptPal. They don’t care where you scan your receipt or what you buy. As long as it’s clear, itemized and easy to read, you’ll receive .025% of your total purchase price in the form of cash back.

This might not seem like much, but it can add up quickly, especially with larger purchases. For incredibly small purchases, there’s no need to bother since you won’t receive any cash back. That’s why we suggest only scanning your receipt for receipts that total $5 or more.

The cash you earn can be used to cash out for gift cards to popular retailers such as Target and Amazon. You need a minimum of $10 to cash out, and for PayPal payments you need a minimum of $50. Use code JASON799 to get a $1 bonus after scanning your first receipt.

7. Receipt Hog

receipt hog 1

This is another app like ReceiptPal that pays you not for any specific offer, just as long as you have the receipt. The one major difference, however, is that their offers are typically limited to grocery stores, convenience stores and gas stations.

Each time you scan a receipt you earn a certain amount of points that are used to play in their “Hog Slots” game. Play the game and randomly receive a certain amount coins that can be used for payouts. Receipt Hog will occasionally send you surveys and other offers for extra coins.

Last time we checked, Receipt Hog is not currently accepting any new members. However, be sure to check back often as they’ve mentioned that they’re willing to open this up fairly soon. Use bonus code zuss1319 to get 5 free spins toward Hog Slots.

8. BerryCart

berry-cart-what-is

If you’re a healthy shopper or like to buy organic, non-GMO or other specialty groceries, BerryCart is the app for you. Their products trend more toward health-related products, something none of the other apps tend to have.

They even have a filtering system that lets you search for a specific health category such as dairy free, vegan or soy. BerryCart also has you covered with their built-in GPS system that tells you the available offers at stores near you.

Most of the items they have available tend to be a bit higher than other apps, ranging from $1 – $3. This is a great way to stick to a healthy diet and still get rewarded for it.

9. Shopmium

shopmium-download

Originally developed in France, the Shopmium app is great for saving on some of the more uncommon groceries. This includes items such as beef jerky, alcohol, protein powder and bagels

Offers are updated on a weekly basis. This app is also retailer-independent, meaning it doesn’t matter where you buy the product as long as it’s itemized on your receipt. Expect to earn anywhere from $.25 cents to a few dollars in cash back per product.

When you use the referral code KKKFFCEX upon sign-up you automatically qualify for a free Lindt Chocolate Bar.

10. Walmart Savings Catcher

savings catcher

This app only applies to products purchased at Walmart. They understand that sometimes you purchase products only to find out shortly after that you can get the product at a much cheaper price.

Instead of looking for cheaper deals in your area, the Walmart Savings Catcher App does this for you. Take a picture of your receipt, and Walmart automatically checks all the items listed to see if there’s a cheaper option in your area.

If Walmart finds an item that’s cheaper than what you paid for it at their store, they’ll refund you the difference. Keep in mind that their payouts are only in the form of Walmart Gift Cards. There’s no limit to the amount of receipts you can check.

11. ShopPrize

shopprize app register

ShopPrize is the newest app on this list, but that doesn’t mean that they have some great offers. In fact, this app pays you no matter what you buy or where you buy it, just as long as it falls under the category of being a food or bevrage.

ShopPrize is extra generous by still paying you even if you lose your receipt. If this is the case, simply take a picture of the product. You won’t receive as much cash back, but you’re still saving a bit of money.

ShopPrize also has a daily check-in bonus just for opening the app once every 24 hours. The coins you earn can be used to cash out for gift cards or to enter in sweepstakes. Since the app is fairly new, you won’t find as much competition in the drawings. For cash prizes, you need a minimum of $5 in earned cash back to claim your first prize.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions that our readers ask us about receipt scanning apps.

What needs to be listed on the receipt?

In general, you should try and take a picture of the entire receipt in order to avoid missing some important information. Most apps need to see the store name and address, date of purchase, itemized list of bought products and total purchase price.

The most important thing you can do is make sure that the receipt you scan is clear and readable. It usually helps to lie the receipt on a flat surface before taking a picture of it.

Can These Apps Be Used Together?

Yes. If you scan a receipt to Checkout51, you can use the same receipt and scan it to MobiSave to earn even more in cash back. The one thing you can’t do is scan the same receipt twice on the same app.

Do These Apps Have Referral Bonuses?

As of now, the only apps with referral bonuses are MobiSave, Ibotta, bevRAGE, Shopmium, BerryCart, Receipt Hog, Yaarlo and Shrink. The amount differs depending on the app that you’re using.

What’s Another Way To Earn Cash Back?

Scanning receipts is a great way to save some extra cash. Yet we’re going to throw you a bonus tip and tell you how to earn even more cash back when shopping online by using shopping portals.

Shopping portals are online websites that partner with thousands of retailers across the web and place their affiliate links onto one website. Click on one of these links to make a purchase, and they earn a commission. They give a portion (if not all of it) back to you in the form of cash back.

topcashback-how-it-works

The amount of cash back you can earn entirely depends on the portal you’re using as well as the store you’re shopping at. For example, TopCashback and BeFrugal – my two favorite portals – give you 8% back at Macy’s. Not only that, but you also get a $10 sign-up bonus.

You usually need a minimum of $10 in earned cash back before you can withdraw to PayPal or gift cards across all portals. Most of them give a generous sign-up bonus. If you’d like to see more portals, you can view our top 10 shopping portal list.

Final Thoughts

These apps all function like Ibotta, giving you cash back for scanning your receipts. It’s not uncommon for me to save an extra $10 – $20 per month for each app. Just be sure to check back weekly as new offers are always available.

Do you see an app that’s not on this list yet needs to be? Feel free to let us know down below, or any other questions you might have. Thanks for reading and happy frugaling!
