This holiday season, Chase is holding a special promotion with their Chase Freedom Card. When you spend $500 within 3 months, you get a $150 sign-up bonus along with 10% off all Amazon purchases until the end of the year.
There are also other great benefits that come with this card that make it great for any purchase.
How Does It Work?
As long as you spend $500 using your Chase Freedom Card within 3 months of opening your account, you get 15,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards Points. These points can either be redeemed for cash or gift cards of the same value. The amount usually shows up in your account within 2 billing cycles.
Here are some other benefits that the card includes:
- No annual fee
- 0% APR for the first 15 months
- $25 additional bonus for adding an authorized user
- 5% cash back on categories that rotate quarterly
- 1% cash back on all other purchases
The card does come with a 3% foreign transaction fee, so we highly recommend you don’t use it for purchases abroad.
Get 10% Back On All Amazon Purchases
In the past, Chase Freedom offered 5% cash back on all Amazon purchases from October 1st to December 31st. This year from November 23rd to December 31st they’re giving away 10% in cash back on all Amazon purchases and 5% off purchases from Zappos.com, Diapers.com, and Audible.com.
There is a cap of $1,500 in total at any of the retailers that give you 5% cash back or more within a quarter. After that, you’ll continue to receive 1% cash back on all purchases. You must activate your cash back by December 14th, or else you’ll simply get 1% back on all purchases.
If you still don’t know what to buy at Amazon but want to get that 10% back for purchases in the future, you can always buy $1,500 in Amazon gift cards. You’ll get $150 for spending $500 within 3 months, and an additional $150 for getting 10% in cash back from Amazon.
The 5% Cash Back Calendar
Depending on the time of year, you can get 5% cash back at certain retailers. Keep in mind that there’s a cap of $1,500, but this amount resets at the beginning of each new quarter. Just remember to activate these categories each quarter. You can view the cash back calendar below.
Redeem Ultimate Rewards Points At Retailers
Chase has introduced a new and easy way to claim your Ultimate Rewards points when you shop in-store. Redeem right from your phone using their app from 30+ stores, movie theaters, and restaurants. Here are just a few of the stores in which you can use the app to claim your points:
- Toys R’ Us
- Best Buy
- Regal Cinemas
Shop Through Chase To Get 1% – 15% Cash Back
When you use the Chase Shopping Portal, you can get anywhere from 1% – 15% cash back. All you have to do is use one of their links to a retailer and then use your Chase card at checkout.
The amount of cash back you get entirely depends on the retailer you’re shopping at. These purchases must be made online. On average, expect to get an additional 5% back, and right now they’re offering 2% cash back on all purchases made toward travel until the end of 2015.
Awesome Chase Offers
Sign-up for email notifications to get special deals and promos. For example, I just recently received a promo code that gives me $30 in Uber credit upon registration. You’ll receive special deals like this once about every 1 – 2 months.
Get $50 For Every Referral
Chase just recently announced their new referral program. For every friend you refer, you get $50 in Ultimate Rewards Points applied to your account. You can only claim a maximum of $500 in referrals, and your friends will still be able to get the $150 cash back bonus and all other benefits. If you’d like to support FFL, you can use our referral link here. We’d greatly appreciate it! This offer might only be temporary.
I use this card frequently mostly because of the 5% cash back categories that change quarterly. Even if you’re not interested in these categories, it’s easy to get the $150 in cash back by just spending $500 within 3 months.
You shouldn’t have any trouble getting approved for the card if you have a credit score of 700 or higher and have under 5 Chase Cards in total. We recommend not applying for the card if your score is below 650, since applying for a credit card will drop your score by a few points whether you are approved or not.
