Want to Earn Some Extra Money?

In this Amazon Fresh review, find out how you can ditch long lines at the grocery store and avoid an hour of your time in store in place of grocery delivery with Amazon Fresh.

Like a lot of people, you may hate going to the grocery store.

And, as everyone’s lifestyle becomes busier and busier, simple tasks like grocery shopping have grown to become a real burden.

It’s time-consuming, tiring, and can feel overwhelming yet, it’s something we can’t get away from.

We have to eat to live and we have to grocery shop.

It’s an hour of your time or longer, navigating busy store aisles trucking along crying kids while trying to avoid throwing aisle cap temptations in your shopping cart, like pop tarts or Oreos.

Would you pay to get this time back?

What’s the solution?

Would it be worth it to  leave stress behind and instead enjoy shopping online for your groceries and having them freshly delivered to your doorstep?

This growing community of adults who would rather not grocery shop have paved the way for a growing industry, grocery delivery.

It’s a new way for the grocery industry to meet the needs of their consumers.

Have you noticed more and more grocery stores popping up with pickup and delivery options available?

In my community, that includes Walmart, H-E-B, Kroger and other stores.

It’s becoming the new normal and Amazon Fresh is a solution to help you have groceries delivered right to your front door.

Let’s go ahead and dive right into our full Amazon Fresh review.

My Love and Hate Experience with Grocery Shopping

When I was a child, I absolutely hated the grocery store experience.

My mom used to drag me to the store and it would always take at least an hour.

I hated lingering in the frozen food section looking at different cuts of meat and the meat and seafood section always had a distinct smell that I wasn’t fond of.

So, there I was, as a child, battling cold from the freezer section and plugging my nose to the smell of that odor from the meat and seafood area.

And then, the whole overall experience was just plain boring.

Those memories have carried me into adulthood and as an adult, I still dislike grocery shopping.

Alone or with friends or the family, it’s still the same experience.

I remember in college, one of my classes had us give an oral presentation on starting a business and one person gave a presentation of starting grocery delivery.

Back then it did exist but was very limited and mostly to the special needs or elderly community.

I remember thinking then, that delivery for groceries is such an amazing idea.

Now, years later, here it is!

When grocery pickup and delivery was introduced, I was ecstatic and I’ve tried most of the services out for myself.

How It All Started?

Amazon began to gain some momentum in Seattle in the year 2007.

Now, over a decade later, you won’t find someone who hasn’t heard of the marketplace giant.

They are known to deliver just about anything to your front doorstep in as little as one day (some products have same-day delivery).

And with the introduction of Amazon Prime, people are enjoying conveniences like one-day and two-day delivery, free video, music, and other Prime perks making their lives easier and more enjoyable.

And now,  AmazonFresh!

It’s like Amazon meets Instacart.

Now, you can have groceries and other goods delivered, right to your home.

What is Amazon Fresh?

Amazon Fresh is a grocery delivery service available in select areas, to Amazon members.

  • Go grocery shopping
  • Get all your favorites online
  • Select 2-hour delivery window
  • Free delivery with $35 order or higher
  • Fresh groceries delivered
  • Quick reorder process

Choice, above anything else matters the most.

It’s nice to have the option to have your groceries delivered and even if you choose not to take advantage of delivery all the time, it certainly comes in handy sometimes, like when you have the flu, stuck in bed and your fridge is empty.

Or, you’re coming home from travel or a family vacation and you’re too exhausted to drag yourself to the grocery store.

Get groceries delivered!

Ordering from Amazon Fresh

The order process is simple and streamlined.

It should first be made clear that ordering your groceries from Amazon Fresh is different than other Amazon orders you might be placing.

For example, you won’t be able to buy a living room rug and your groceries in the same order most likely, though other non-food goods are available to buy.

You are ordering your groceries here so you just add your grocery items to cart, checkout, schedule your delivery and await your delivery.

If you’re familiar with ordering from Amazon, you’ll enjoy that the layout is near identical for Amazon Fresh.

You search and add groceries to your shopping cart.

Then, make your purchase, schedule your delivery and await your groceries delivered right to your doorstep!

One of the main perks of Amazon Fresh is free delivery for orders over $35.

This is huge, especially considering that most grocery delivery comes with a hefty fee attached to it.

Now, there’s really no obstacle in place for joining Amazon Fresh and getting your first delivery!

How to Prepare a Grocery List

First, click on Past Purchases and then click the “Grocery List” link which will take you to the Grocery List section of the site where you can make your own list!

To get started, first you’ll add your items to your list by clicking the “Add to grocery list” button from the product page.

You can also click the dropdown arrow the “Past Purchases” page.

You can name your list, start adding items, and then checkout when you’re ready.

This is super convenient and comes in handy when you’re researching meals to cook for your family next week and slowly adding items to your list throughout the week, in preparation for your Sunday grocery delivery, for example.

This is exactly how I’d do it!

You’re busy and you might not have time to sit down and craft your list all in one sitting.

So, adding to your grocery list here and there when you have time so by the time you’re ready to schedule your delivery, your master list will be ready!

This is a really neat free feature available on Amazon Fresh.

What Does Amazon Fresh Cost?

It only costs the price of your Amazon Prime membership.

There’s no additional cost for the program, as long as you order at least $35 worth of groceries.

How much is Amazon Prime?

  • $119/year for annual membership
  • $59/year for annual Prime student membership

If you don’t have Prime, is it worth it to signup for the program for Amazon Fresh?

In short, yes.

Grocery delivery can save so much money and with free delivery charges with a $35+ order, you can’t beat that deal.

Not to mention, a Prime membership comes with all these perks:

  • Amazon video
  • Free and fast delivery on over 100 million items
  • Exclusive Prime member deals
  • Prime music
  • And, more!

That means you can get rid of your streaming video service and streaming music service, plus enjoy free super fast shipping and more benefits, like access to Amazon Fresh (if available in your area).

Are You Missing Out with Grocery Delivery?

You might wonder if you’re truly missing out with grocery delivery.

Can you get everything you need with delivery that you would if you shopped in store?

Yes, you can!

Amazon Fresh has multiple food categories including home & household, clothes & accessories, and more, so you can get all your shopping done in just one trip with them:

  • Fresh produce
  • Meat & seafood
  • Dairy & eggs
  • Frozen food
  • Household

You can buy bananas by the bunch, buy strawberries by the pound, and it’s super easy to buy all your household staples including pork chops, paper towels and toilet paper, cold medicine, and more.

My Amazon Fresh Experience?

I have had delivery using Amazon Fresh about 2-3 times over the past year or so.

This is my personal experience.

I turned to Amazon Fresh because they partner with Whole Foods in my area.

Whole Foods is a grocery chain known for their organic and whole foods.

You can find a nice variety of grass fed meat, hordes of different organic fruits and vegetables, plus diet-friendly options to serve gluten-free, vegan, paleo, keto and other lifestyles.

In my area Whole Foods is about a 15-minute drive away.

That’s not very far in a big city but some days, life is just too busy and I can’t break away to make it to Whole Foods so I opt for delivery using AmazonFresh.

I put groceries in my shopping cart, then I pick a delivery time and check out.

Delivery times are grouped into 2-hour time windows like 12-2 or 4-6.

Like many grocery pickup or delivery service options from stores, you have to order early or be stuck with whatever times are available.

This was almost always the case for me, when I’d use Amazon Fresh.

The majority of the time I was stuck with the last window, which went into the evening and I always was the last delivery in that window, which was disappointing.

What I like about Amazon Fresh is that they pack cold and frozen items very well.

They use special bags and cold packs to ensure that ice cream stays frozen, meats don’t thaw out, and milk is still nice and cold when it arrives at your door.

They also leave the groceries right at your front door.

They don’t stay to acknowledge you’re home and you’ve brought the groceries in and they won’t deliver the bags into your home, like Instacart or other grocery delivery services.

To be honest, this doesn’t bother me but it can be a stop for others.

If you think about it, you know you ordered grocery delivery, you scheduled the delivery time and you’re expecting the delivery.

Not to mention, you’ll be connected to the Amazon website and/or app where you’ll get notified when the delivery will be made so, it may not be as big of a deal that they don’t wait for acknowledgement before leaving the groceries at your front door.

Also, this could have just been my experience.

What I Liked About Amazon Fresh?

The biggest benefit of Amazon Fresh for me is the convenience.

What’s easier than having groceries delivered right to your doorstep and it was completely free.

It was super easy to order groceries online, pay, and schedule delivery.

The groceries arrived in good condition, exactly as pictured on the app, including produce arriving undamaged and in good condition.

The groceries were packed with care and I was pleasantly surprised to see the cold pack bags that the frozen and cold items (like almond milk, yogurt, etc.) were packed in.

What I Didn’t Like About AmazonFresh?

I wasn’t happy with the delivery slot availability.

This probably was due to me ordering delivery same day.

With other comparable services, if I order same day, I can usually get a reasonable pickup time within 3-4 hours but it was longer with Amazon Fresh.

I’d be on the website at 11am to set a delivery same day and the first slot open was 4-6pm.

And again, I always was the last delivery in the time slot which means my order arrived right at or close to 6pm.

My delivery also arrived late 2 out of the 3 times I ordered.

It wasn’t terribly late, about 10-20 minutes after the delivery window but being alert during the 2 hour window to catch the grocery delivery and then being disappointed at the late delivery didn’t make me happy.

Then, I wasn’t a fan of the 2-hour delivery time.

I prefer a set delivery time or a shorter window, like 30 minutes instead of 2 hours.

These things probably won’t prevent me from ordering again, though.

The products always arrived packaged well with no damage and I always got my entire order, which doesn’t happen every time when I do grocery pickup with other stores.

Another thing I didn’t like is the selection of products available.

Amazon Fresh in my area is from Whole Foods.

I would be looking for specific Whole Foods items that were in store, like a lot of the bakery items such as challah bread or pre-made pies or muffins, etc. and they just weren’t available.

While there was a variety of foods on Amazon Fresh and enough for me to do a full grocery shop, I didn’t like that 2-3 items I was hoping to get with my delivery were never available every time I ordered.

The last time I ordered Amazon Fresh was about 6+ months ago so things may have changed now.

The service was pretty new to the area when I was ordering so as time goes on, things can improve and more products can become available.

This was my experience when I tested Instacart for a few months when it came to my area a few years back.

Is AmazonFresh free for Prime Members?

You qualify for free grocery delivery as a Prime member.

Yet another amazing benefit of being an Amazon Prime member.

  • Groceries delivered to your front door
  • Get all your favorites like bread, milk, popcicles, juice, and more
  • Pick your 2-hour delivery window for free (for cart value over $35)
  • Get fresh groceries packaged with care

Then, when you reorder, you’ll be able to put together your cart more quickly because you’ll have access to past purchases and you can add those items over and over.

What are Fresh Deals?

You’ll notice a category online called Fresh Deals.

These are sales and coupon deals on groceries.

Right now, there are sales on apples, oranges and artichokes, in produce.

There are also deals on Larabar fruit & nut bars, Pedialyte, Cheerios, Lays Poppables, and more items.

The page is actually full of tons and tons of deals.

How it works?

Just put the item into your cart and you’re all set!

Same Day Delivery Hack on Non-Food Items

You can buy non-food grocery items like toys, clothes and more!

Amazon Prime is really incredible.

You can get one-day and two-day shipping on many products but, have you ever been in a position where that still wasn’t fast enough?

You go to the Amazon site and you find products you want to buy but you’d like it delivered same day.

Well, you can do that with Amazon Fresh.

In addition to getting your groceries, they also have non-food categories like:

  • Beauty and personal care
  • Clothes and accessories
  • Toys
  • And, more!

So, if you need to get a board game for family night or need to buy toys online for a birthday party your child will attend, you’re set!

If you need a fresh pair of underwear, socks, a pair of sunglasses, baby clothes, a watch, hat, or other clothes and accessories, you’re totally set!

This is one of the chief reasons I truly love Amazon Fresh!

It’s not just for food groceries.

Food Selection

There’s a nice selection and good variety of foods available.

It’s a very similar experience to shopping at your grocer in person.

You’ll find produce, seafood, frozen foods, bakery items, wine and alcohol and more.

So, in terms of food selection, you will not be giving up variety when you try AmazonFresh.

You’ll really love the array of different foods and products available, right at your fingertips.

Buying Local Fresh Seasonal Items

What if you want to buy local?

You can do that with Amazon Fresh!

Head to the local & seasonal category and find an array of local items you can buy.

In my area, there are goods like:

  • Organic eggs
  • Sea salt butter
  • Local bread
  • Local honey
  • Beverages
  • Snacks
  • And, many more items!

So, if you want to support local businesses and farms in your area, you can totally do it with Amazon Fresh!

Food Quality

The food quality seems to be mostly good.

Though there have been a few reviews of slightly squished produced, for the most part, we’ve found that customers are generally happy with the convenience and quality of food delivered with Amazon Fresh.

When I had my multiple Amazon Fresh deliveries, I also received quality food delivered that was in excellent condition.
