If you’re a movie fanatic like myself, you love going to the theater to view the latest showing. Yet tickets are only becoming more and more expensive with prices easily going between $10 – $15 dollars.
Fortunately, if there’s an AMC theater in your area, you can known down those movie tickets down by 40%.
Just make sure to follow the steps outlined in this article in order. If a step doesn’t make sense at first, by the end of the article you should be able to understand them all.
Take note that this method not only works for movie tickets, but concessions as well!
1. Get A Cash Back Credit Card
You may be thinking that we want a credit card that gives us the highest amount of cash back at the cinemas, but this isn’t the case. In fact, we want a credit card that gives us the highest amount of cash back on all purchases. The card that does this for us is the Citi Double Cash Card, earning us 2% cash back on everything.
The card comes with no annual fee and Citi even waives your first late payment with this credit card. Here’s a quick glance at all the details:
- 2% Cash Back On All Purchases
- No annual fee
- Incredible Citi Benefits
- Free Concierge Service
- No Cap On Cash Back
- First late payment waived
If you’d like to go with another brand, you can also try the American Express Fidelity Card which also gives you 2% back. Here we make a comparison between the two. Either way, 2% is the highest that we’ve found thus far. If you have another card that you prefer, just make sure it gives you a high amount of cash back on everything you buy, because we’re not going to buy the tickets directly.
2. Sign-Up For Raise
Raise is an online gift card vendor. They buy your unwanted gift cards at a discount and then resell them to you at a higher price than what they purchased them for, but still at a lower price than their actual retail value. However, we don’t want to purchase a gift card just yet. Right now all we’re doing is signing-up for a new account to make things easier later down the road.
To sign-up for a Raise account, you can click this link here. Click on the “Sign-Up” button in the upper-right-hand corner of the page and enter in your name and email, and it’s absolutely free. If you’re still a little bit confused about how gift card resellers work, you can read how to quickly find the best place to buy discounted gift cards. We’re using Raise because they offer the best deal.
3. Sign-Up For TopCashBack
TopCashBack is an online shopping portal that pays you money to use their affiliate links. Each time you click on one of their links that redirects you to a major online retailer, they earn a commission and give a portion of that to you, the buyer. Essentially you’re getting cash back each time you shop online. They often have great deals, such as getting up to 8.5% cash back on Amazon.
4. Search For Raise On TopCashBack
Now that we’ve gotten all of the legwork out of the way, it’s time to make our purchase. Log-in to your TopCashBack account and type in “Raise” in the search bar. You’re going to see that everything you buy from Raise using their affiliate link gets you 2% cash back.
Go ahead and click on the “Cashback” button to be redirected to the Raise website. From here we’re going to make our actual purchase in the step below.
5. Purchase An AMC Gift Card
Now that we’re on the Raise website, we can finally make our purchase. One of the highest discounted gift cards that you can find on their page is to the AMC theaters. Simply do a search for “AMC” in their search box and you’ll be shown how much of a discount you can purchase an AMC gift card for. You should notice multiple gift cards that are selling at a 30% discount. This is huge!
You can select any card that you want, and most of the time it will arrive within 30 minutes, but can take up to 24 hours at most since most of their AMC gift cards are egift cards. Once you are on the checkout page, make sure to use your Citi Double Cash Card mentioned above to get an extra 2% in cash back.
I’ve never had any problems purchasing a gift card on Raise, but if you do, they have excellent customer service and a money-back guarantee. In fact, Raise is so great we wrote up why Raise is almost always the best place to buy gift cards.
Now let’s recap how much money we saved.
- 30% when buying a gift card on Raise
- 2% by going through the TopCashBack portal
- 2% by using our Citi Double Cash Card
The gift card that you purchased can be used both to buy movie tickets as well as concessions.
Save Even More With An AMC Stubs Membership
We’re actually not going to stop at 34%, but go al little bit further instead. You can also sign-up for AMC Stubs, their loyalty program that gives you member-only benefits. With the Stubs program, you get a $10 dollar reward every time you spend $100 dollars. Not only that, but each time you purchase a concession it’s automatically upgraded to the next largest size. So if you order a small, they automatically give you a medium. You can sign-up for free here.
Ever since signing-up for an AMC Stubs membership along with going through the steps outlined in this guide, I refuse to go to any other movie theater. The benefits along with the savings are too great to pass up. While it may seem like a lot of work for a little bit of savings, that’s because it is! However, I promise that once you get used to this process, it will only take a few minutes of your time.
In fact, if you’re a frequent movie-goer, a good way to save time and money is to buy a gift card that has a high amount such as $100. This way you only have to go through the steps one time for every ten tickets or so that you buy.
