So, when you are ready to finally seek out coupons, where can you find them?
- Shopping portals
- Cell phone apps
- Mail flyers and circulars
- On your store receipt from a previous store visit
Before you start your search, you want to get organized. Make a list of items you want to buy and do your research to try finding the best price online.
Keeping a coupon binder is a practice that many expert couponers do.
A binder with pockets and inserts can help you keep your coupons neat and ready, sorting by expiration date, food group, store, and more.
If you don’t want to invest in a binder, using plastic sandwich bags is great too, for keeping your coupons.
Get Some Motivation
If you’re like me, when you start a new project, nothing gets you going than seeing others’ success.
This is why when I venture out doing something new, whether it be trying a new diet, taking on a new hobby, or trying a new service or app, I search for success stories.
It’s an ego boost.
Give this a try to give some added motivation before you start your save money journey.
- Look at coupon success stories on blog
- Follow couponers on YouTube and view their hauls
- Read stories and articles
This is completely optional but if you want some help envisioning your own success, nothing helps better than reading about how well others are doing!
Here are some of the terms you’ll come across. It might feel unfamiliar at first but the more you coupon, the more you’ll get acquainted with these couponing terms.
Knowing them is important because it means you can save time browsing through stores, knowing the meaning of these words at a glance.
A coupon code is a code you enter during checkout which applies a discount to your order total.
For example, you might be a picture frame online for $30 and you’re offered a coupon code which is 50OFF for 50% off. You will enter that coupon code (50OFF) during checkout and have 50% off applied to your order total, making your picture frame purchase $15 instead of $30 (which is 50% off).
Coupon codes apply to specific purchase so make sure you meet the terms, in order to qualify.
Receiving cash back means you pay the full price of your purchase then get a specific amount of cash back from the order total, sent back to you after check out.
For example, you buy socks online for $20 with $8 cash back. This means you complete your purchase for $20 and will be sent $8 cash back in the future.
Cash back is just as good as couponing. It’s free money and if you have the opportunity, take advantage.
This is a coupon offered by the manufacturer.
For example, if you buy an Epson printer with a Manufacturers coupon of $50 OFF, that means that the manufacturer, Epson is offering customers a coupon for $50 OFF. This coupon is NOT offered by the store, the warehouse, the website, etc. It is offered by the manufacturer.
This is a coupon offered by the store.
For example, if you buy 5 items at your local grocery store and the store is offering a coupon, $3 OFF 5+ items, then you could use the store coupon to apply the savings to your total.
Store coupons are offered by the store, not the manufacturer.
Store coupons are common with retailers and grocery stores.
Every coupon is associated with an expiration date. This is the date the coupon expires or is no longer good.
For example, you have a coupon for $5 OFF chocolate candies good through 10/31/19. That date is the expiration date. So, if you try using the coupon after it expires (10/31/19), it will no longer be valid and won’t work to get you $5 OFF.
It’s important to read coupons carefully and check expiration dates because it can mean the difference between you getting cash off your offer through the coupon, and not!
The coupon sites you visit will vary according to your shopping needs.
For example, grocery shopping will require different coupons than clothing shopping. Figure out what kind of shopping you’ll be doing and know that you’ll be focusing on those coupon site.
Now, let’s check out the roundup of 10 coupon sites to try for everyday savings!
