Earn Free Gift Cards Using the Shopkick App While Shopping

Want to Earn Some Extra Money?

For those of you not familiar with Shopkick, it’s a smartphone app that awards you points for checking in at stores and scanning products. The work required is very minimal and you can earn gift cards to popular retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy. Registration is 100% free.

What Is ShopKick?

Shopkick awards you for doing one of three things:

1.) Visiting one of its partner stores

2.) Scanning barcodes of specific products

3.) Redeeming one of their coupons.

These points, also known as “kicks,” can be redeemed for free gift cards to select retailers. As little as 500 kicks can be redeemed for your first reward. Here is a list of just some of the stores that are partnered with Shopkick:

  • Macy’s
  • Walmart
  • Target
  • Urban Outfitters
  • Walgreens
  • Toys ‘R’ Us
  • Best Buy
  • JCPenny’s

The app is fairly easy to use, so let’s take a look at how it works.

Earn Kicks By Visiting Stores

Visiting stores has to be one of the easiest ways to earn points on Shopkick. The app uses GPS to determine the closest partner retailer to your current location. Once you enter or get close to the store, make sure your bluetooth is on and open the Shopkick app. Points will automatically be redeemed and you can leave the store.

In order to find out which stores offer points for walk-ins, open the Shopkick app and select the store tab at the bottom. There will be a list of offers available.

Get 80 kicks for walking into Best Buy.

You don’t need to buy anything to get reward points. Simply walk into the store, get points and leave. This is especially great in malls, where you can walk by a multitude of stores and get a large amount of points quickly.

Scan Barcodes

Another features that enables you to earn points is by scanning the barcodes of products in Shopkick’s partner stores. This feature will only be available once you are close to the store, so don’t try to access it anywhere else. Options for scanning barcodes will automatically pop-up once you are near the retailer.

As shown in the picture above, you can scan items that are located in the store and receive points. However, I advise you to be careful when scanning barcodes in front of store employees, as some retailers don’t encourage it.

Take note that some of these scanning offers may be available in some stores but not the other. This is a kquick way to get some kicks while getting your shopping done.

Get Kicks By Buying Discounted Items Through Shopkicks

Every once in a while there’s a great deal on Shopkick. If you find a deal that you like, you can make the purchase and receive kicks back after your purchase.

Here you can get 246 kicks by buying this lantern at Urban Outfitters. However, after browsing all of their special offers, it’s not often that I find a great deal, even with the kicks back.

Be sure to shop around before deciding on a final purchase, and then make a decision to see if the extra kicks make it worth it. Make sure to use a cash back credit card to even get more off of your purchase.

Find Coupons or Great Deals

Shopkick also has a bundle of coupons or deals that are available to use at the store you’re visiting. Usually these include special sales that are going on or coupons on specific items. Stack these with coupons that you find and you’ll even add more to your savings.

If you wish to use these coupons, click on the coupon in the app and show the cashier the one that you’d like to use. You can often find great deals, such as taking $2 off a holiday item that costs $8 or more.

By simply using walk-ins alone, I’ve earned enough for $20 in gift cards through the Shopkick app my first month by going to stores I already go to. This is a great app that makes it convenient to earn rewards without wasting any extra time.
