With the mass amount of websites that serve as airline ticket search engines, it can be overwhelming to choose which one offers the best deals. Furthermore, you may have to do countless searches if you’re flexible about your flight dates.
Fortunately, Google Flights makes it really easy when choosing a flight. Not only will it display some of the cheapest prices around, but you can easily select flights around your desired dates to find the best deals available.
How Does Google Flights Work?
We’re here to show you how can quickly use Google Flights to find the cheapest airline tickets around for any flight. This should quickly become your favorite search engine for up-and-coming airline deals.
You can access Google Flights by going to their website here. Type in your destinations in the search box above along with desired dates.
You should be able to see a list of prices right below this. It’s important to scroll down a bit more so that you can see special deals, usually highlighted in green. While these flights are usually much cheaper, they’re usually longer-lasting and include longer layovers.
If you’re flexible about your dates of travel, we can go a bit further. Click on the small calendar icon located next to your flight date. A pop-up box should appear, showing you prices of flights close to your selected date.
For the same round-trip from Seattle to New York, we see that the cheapest price available is $257, saving us nearly an extra $30 dollars.
How Does This Compare With Other Flight Search Engines?
While you can find the same deals using other ticket search engines, it’s going to be a big hassle. One of the best alternatives that I’ve found is Kayak. Usually I can find the best deals, but their layout makes it incredibly difficult to find flexible dates.
Here we see the original $288 price above for the same flight. However, we’d have to do some digging around for other flights around the same date.
Make Sure To Use An Online Travel Agent When Booking
While you could book the flight directly from Google Flights, it’s usually best to use an online travel agent to get additional benefits. Expedia allows you to cancel a flight within 24 hours from purchase without any sort of penalty. Find a lower price? Expedia will refund you the difference and give you a $50 coupon.
Not only that, but we can also get additional cash back when using such services by using what’s called an online cash back portal. These portals pay you cash to use their affiliate links to purchase a ticket. They earn a commission fee and give a portion of that to you, the customer.
One of the best shopping portals out there is called BeFrugal, claiming that you can save an average of 7% on every purchase. Additionally, you get a free $10 when you sign-up. Go to their site, sign-up, and type in the retailer where you want to make the purchase. In this case, we’re going to use Expedia.
We see here that we can get up to 8% cash back on Expedia. Take note that this may only apply to certain purchases (cruises, hotels, vacation packages, etc.) and their terms often change, so it’s important to read those first
On top of all of this, be sure to use a good cash back credit card to add additional savings to your purchase. Using Google Flights makes it both easy to find great deals and also cheap flights around my desired dates.
