The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) has partnered with American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines to help find a cure for cancer. For every dollar that you donate to curing cancer through October 15, 2015, you can receive up to 15 miles per dollar and receive a tax-deduction on your donation.
How Does It Work?
Every dollar that you donate to charity can be written off as a tax write-off at the end of the year. The IRS states that you can deduct as much as 50% of your annual gross income (more info on that here).
Now instead of only receiving this deduction along with the satisfaction of donating money toward a good cause, you can receive a maximum amount of 15 miles per $1 donated toward the “Fly To Find A Cure” fundraiser. You can choose to donate through any of the three airlines listed above, with American Airlines giving you the most bang for your buck donated.
This gift not only saves you money, but helps support our continuing efforts in cancer research. You can also choose which account you wish to allocate your miles to. If you have an inactive airlines account that’s going to expire, this is also a great way to keep it from expiring.
Miles takes anywhere from 4-6 weeks to appear in your account, and you must donate a minimum of $100 to receive a bonus. You can even use a cash back credit card to donate to NFCR to increase your savings.
The fact of the matter is that you’re actually losing money by donating to this cause. However, now’s a better time than ever to take advantage of this promotion and donate to a good worthy cause while earning some miles back at the same time. Don’t want to use the miles? It can also be a great way to get miles into your account and gift them to your friends or family members.
Did you make a donation? Don’t be shy about helping others in need and let us know in the comments below.
