That makes them lucrative side hustles for anyone trying to make a little extra income from home.
One of the apps that is becoming really popular is Shopkick.
Unlike other applications that keep you at home and have you doing tasks, Shopkick takes you out of the home and into your favorite retailers.
It’s simple to use Shopkick, like the other applications on your phone that can earn you points.
The best part is that no matter who you are, once you start earning points with Shopkick, you can redeem those Shopkick points and turn them into gift cards.
Like other applications that pay you PayPal cash, you can earn straight up cash with Shopkick, but you can also earn points to put towards gift cards for Amazon, eBay, Best Buy, Starbucks, and many many more places.
This makes Shopkick a lucrative app for those looking to do activities and make money directly from their phone!
What is Shopkick
Shopkick is an easy to use application that you can download to your phone and start using right away to earn points towards gift cards to your favorite stores.
It’s a rewards app that asks you to go to your favorite retailers and scan items for points.
If you purchase items from the stores that you shop at, you can make even more points.
You can easily get to your goal within a few days if you use the Shopkick app avidly and do your best to complete as many offers as possible when you’re in a store.
How Can I Get Shopkick
If you believe you’re ready to take on the Shopkick challenge, then all yo have to do is follow this link to download the app.
This app is available for Android and iOS and can be installed within minutes.
Once you’ve finished downloading the app, you can sign up for an account directly from your phone using a Facebook account, a Gmail account, or manually sign up using a different email service.
The process for making a Shopkick account is quick and painless, and once you’re in the application fully, you can start learning how to use Shopkick with the mini tutorial that takes you through the applications features and shows you what you need to to start earning points.
At the very beginning of opening up the application, you will be asked what kind of gift card you’d like to start earning points towards.
You can select any of the available options on screen and change it later for a different gift card if you’d like.
There are many more options once you’re in the application officially, and you can select a different one at any time.
You won’t see the PayPal option when it asks you to select a gift card the first time, but when you change your selection it will be amongst the many other gift card options that you find.
You can always change the selection at any time, and you can start earning points immediately.
How Do I Use Shopkick
Using Shopkick is easy as one, two, three!
When you use the Shopkick app, you collect what are called “kicks” which is their term for your rewards points.
You ca easily link your Visa or Mastercard to your Shopkick account, and every time you make a purchase through their online store shopping portals, you’ll get kicks for every dollar that you spend.
You can also gain kicks y purchasing items and submitting your receipts with the items listed on the receipt that are eligible for kicks within the app.
You can begin using Shopkick right away at home.
If you’re an avid online shopper and have been holding off on making a purchase, you can find the link for your favorite online retailer in the app and make that purchase directly from the Shopkick app.
If you do this, you’ll gain kicks back on your application for every dollar you spend on the online store of your choice.
You have to use the link in the app to purchase the items you’d like to get the kicks back on your Shopkick account, but it’s super easy with the streamlined interface of the Shopkick app.
This means that you can make big purchases and get back big rewards if you use the online shopping portal.
Shopkick is a great shopping app that gives you the best deals you can find at your favorite stores.
You also get points just for walking in the door of your favorite stores!
You can gain kicks by checking into the location, and that adds up points too.
A pro tip is to open the application before you walk inside the store so your location services on your smartphone can identify your location within the app and reward you the points for walking into the store.
How Do I Gain Points with Shopkick
There are nine different ways that you can earn points with Shopkick.
Six of the different ways that you can earn points don’t require you to leave the comfort of your home.
This makes gaining points something that you can do right away as soon as you download the application.
Oddly enough, the way that Shopkick identifies where you are with your phone and the application to offer you local deals is through bluetooth.
What this means is that when you are on your way to a Shopkick affiliated store, you should turn your bluetooth on so that you can find as many deals as possible.
It seems like an odd way to connect your phone to your deals, but it’s how they do it!
Once you’ve got your bluetooth on, you can gain walk-in points just by walking through the front door of the affiliated retail location.
This is great because you can literally earn points by just walking in and out of the store if you don’t have time to actually browse through the store and buy products.
Each time you do this, you can earn anywhere from 15 to 50 points per check in.
That’s a lot of points for simply walking into a store, and can help you rack up points quickly.
For this to work though, you must turn on your bluetooth, so don’t forget!
The app should be able to identify what store you’re in automatically, but if for some reason the application doesn’t pick up your location, you can open up the area specific to the store you’re in in the “Kicks Nearby” tab.
You can then click on the walk-in icon within the kicks-gaining options on the particular stores page.
Kicks for Scans
Another way that you can easily earn points is by scanning items in the store without having to purchase them.
There is another tab under the specific store that will give you a full, visual list of all the products that you can scan once you’re inside of the retail store.
This is a cool part of the Shopkick app because it sends you on a bit of a scavenger hunt.
If you’re enjoying a day off and you want to spend some time gaining points, you can walk into stores like CVS or Target and start accruing points simply by just walking around the store and scanning the barcodes of products that you see on the available list within the retailer on your Shopkick app.
The best way to maximize your rewards points is to scan every single item that you see on the list within the store if it is stocked.
When you have found a product that is available to scan for the Shopkick app, you can click on the picture for the item within the app and open up the screen that gives you your scanning options.
Usually you will have two options.
The first one is to scan the item without purchasing it.
The second is to buy the item and then you can submit a picture of the receipt and earn many, many more points.
One option, for example, is the Starbucks Plus Madagascar Vanilla K-Cup that you can purchase at CVS.
If you open the scan screen and simply scan the product, you can gain 25 kicks just for the scan.
If you purchase the item, you’ll make 1350 kicks, which is considerably more.
It’ll be tempting to buy the items just for the kicks, but that can add up to a high tab if you go on a shopping spree!
Save your item submissions with your receipt for products that you’ll actually use after you shop.
Or, you can be a little devious and purchase the items for the points, scan and submit the receipt, and then return the items if you wish.
Once you open the scan screen for your selected item, you will see a little rectangle on the screen where your camera will line up with the barcode, and once you’re perfectly centered, all you have to do is hold still and the app will identify the barcode.
Once your app has verified that you have the correct barcode, you will see a blue circle appear on your screen with the kicks that you’ve earned.
It’s that easy!
Combined with the walk-in points, these are two ways that you can make purchase-free points with the Shopkick app.
Uploading Purchase Receipts
You won’t be able to reach a high kicks accrual if you just scan items though, so another way that you can gain kicks is by actually purchasing some items.
The best suggestion is to purchase items with high kicks returns for a purchase.
There will be different points available for each item, so if you are selective and pick just a few of the available items for purchase that have high kicks rewards, then you’ll be able to meet your goal faster.
For you to gain points for items that you’ve purchased, you’ll go into the same screen where you scan products.
There will be an option underneath scan that will allow you to upload your receipt to Shopkick and gain points from your purchase.
All you have to do is take a picture of your receipt, and you are all set.
It’ll take a little more time for these items to be verified, but once they are your Shopkick points will be seen on your account.
Link Your Debit or Credit Card
Another way to earn points is by linking your debit or credit card.
This can be a passive way to earn points if you’re not looking to spend a lot of time seeking out and scanning items or purchasing products that you don’t necessarily have a use for.
Once you’ve linked your debit or credit card to your account, it usually takes 24 hours before the card and your account are fully connected.
Once you’ve done this, you can shop at your favorite retailers without having to worry about whether or not you’re remembering to make points, it’ll just do it for you automatically.
The only thing you have to remember is to run every purchase as a credit transaction.
It’s easy to link your debit or credit card to your Shopkick account.
All you have to do is click on the little gear for your settings options in the left hand upper corner of the main screen of the app, and there will be the option to link your card.
Earning Points From Home
Another option that you have for gaining points involves you staying put at home.
This is excellent for people who are interested in gaining points and rewards from Shopkick but who don’t want to venture out when they don’t have time.
Here’s a look at ways you can earn points from the comfort of your home.
The Discover Tab
At the very bottom of the main Shopkick screen, you’ll see an option that says “Discover” with a little book icon above it.
When you click on this screen, it’ll take you to an area where you can watch videos based on different categories within the app.
These categories range from “Food & Drink” to “Health and Beauty”.
Within these categories, there will be short videos that you can watch and earn some points that way.
These points amounts won’t be high, but you can supplement your points by watching them or running the short ads in the background while you do other things.
The average points rewards for these videos are 3 to 5 kicks.
It won’t take you long at all to watch these videos, and you’ll be able to gain points without leaving home.
The Earn Tab
This is another way that you can earn Shopkick points on your phone without leaving your house!
There are two separate screens under the earn tab, one of which we’ve already covered which is “Kicks Nearby”, and the other is “Kicks Online”.
Within the Kicks Online tab, you can easily visit online stores and make some Kicks easily.
All you have to do is scroll through the listed retailers within this Shopkick app screen and locate the stores that have a little phone icon next to them.
Once you locate one of these smartphone icons, click on it and you will brought into the retailer screen where you can find their shopping portal.
If you do this, you will be rewarded a point or two just for spending time in the portal on your phone.
If you see an icon beside the different retailers products that look like eyeballs, you can click on this icon and gain some kicks just for looking at the products that they offer.
Doing this does not require you to make a purchase, which is great if you want to conserve your money for other things you’d like to purchase.
The last way to earn kicks from the “Kicks Online” tab is by directly purchasing products through their shopping portals.
If you already shop at these retailers online or in-store, then you can buy things that you like and actually use for some high kick points.
You’ll be able to make a certain amount of points per dollar spent, and these can range from 2 points per dollar to as much as 21 or more per online retailer.
Forever 21 in particular gives you 21 points per dollar spent, which is a high amount of points for that particular store, and you can gain a lot of them quickly if you like shopping for clothes from this retailer.
Each store will have a shopping cart next to the store that will take you to the portal so that you can shop.
The app will track your spending as you shop through their portal.
If you have your debit card linked to your account, you may be able to get points through the card alone, but you’ll have to use their shopping portal to earn the exact amount of points seen on the shopping portal screen for that retailer.
The best part is that you can do your online shopping from your laptop if you prefer a wider view for your shopping pleasure.
You’ll be able to login to the Shopkick website and purchase items directly from your account via your laptop.
How Can I Redeem Points with Shopkick
Redeeming your Shopkick points is extremely easy.
When you first set your app up, you’ll be able to select what kind of reward you’d like to receive.
There are different tiers of gift cards and you can select an option that starts paying out at $2 or more.
If you’re trying to gain a PayPal cash reward, then you’ll have to meet the points requirement for $10 as a minimum.
You can choose right at the beginning of setting up your app what you’d like your goal to be.
There are limited options during the set up screen, but you can select from a wider range of options once you’ve passed through all of the on-boarding information.
You’ll also be able to change this reward at any point in time, so if you decide that you’d like to cash out sooner or you’d like to go for a higher goal and get more rewards at one time instead of in smaller increments, you can.
There are gift cards for many retailers, including iTunes cards, Ulta and Lowe’s.
Once you’ve reached the kicks goal for your reward, all you have to do is press on the reward icon at the top of the main screen, which will look like the gift card that you’ll receive.
Once you’re in the rewards screen, you can choose to either change your goal or redeem your kicks.
You can easily redeem your kicks just by pressing the icon, and once you do that your points will be deducted from your account and converted into the gift card of your choice.
It’s a quick, simple way of making some extra cash towards future purchases!
Tips for Making the Most of Shopkick
If you’ve already downloaded the app and set up your account, there are a few things you should do to maximize your Shopkick rewards points accrual.
You should definitely check the app daily.
This will allow you to keep up with any special offers that might come up for a limited time.
Shopkick will occasionally up your kicks for a specific store, making purchases more lucrative for adding up points.
There are extras that get added to your Shopkick options, such as walking to a store to gain some points.
These bonuses can be easily missed if you don’t check the app every day, and even a small gift card for doing a simple task is worth it!
You should also be aware that scanning items from different stores that are available as kicks at each retailer might not result in you getting the points twice over.
Occasionally this is not a problem, but it appears that Shopkick does not stack rewards if you’re scanning the same item from two different locations.
A last tip is making sure that you stay on top of your account summary and make sure that you get rewarded every point you work for.
If you have any issues with the application, your rewards, or simply have a question, you can look for support within the app on the “Questions and Support” screen.
