If you shop at popular stores such as Target, Starbucks or Subway, the Punchcard App will pay you for taking a picture of your receipt. Win prizes and earn rewards simply by shopping at the places that you love.

What Is The Punchcard App?

Punchcard is a free mobile app that’s available for both iOS and Android devices. Partnered with popular retailers throughout the US, Punchcard works to help you earn cash rewards simply be shopping at the places you already do.

Each time you go to one of their partnered locations, keep the receipt and take a picture of it to earn points. These points can be exchanged for gift cards, contest entries, physical prizes or charitable donations.

Here are just a few of the current stores that you can use Punchcard with:

  • Target
  • Subway
  • Starbucks
  • Trader Joe’s
  • McDonald’s
  • Chevron
  • Best Buy
  • Safeway
  • Banana Republic
  • Many Mom and Pop Shops
  • Much More

Once you download the app, you’ll be able to view all of the stores available near your current location. You’d be surprised at just how many retailers are available for you to earn points at, even if you’re located in small town or city. There’s even a lot of mom and pop locations.

Registration for the Punchcard App is completely free.

Spin The Wheel For Points

After you shop at one of their stores, keep the receipt and take a picture of it. From there you’ll need to spin a wheel to see how many points you earn for that receipt, as shown in the image below.

Keep in mind that you need to scan your receipt within 5 days of your purchase. If your receipt is dated back longer than this time, you won’t be awarded anything.

How Much Can I Earn With The Punchcard App?

The more stores you shop at, obviously the more you’re going to earn with the Punchcard App. Instead of redeeming your points directly through the Punchcard App, you use one of their partner apps called mPoints. While it is slightly annoying having to use 2 apps – one for earning points and one for redeeming – you can still get your prizes just the same.

Each time you spin the wheel, expect to earn anywhere from 5 – 50 points. However, it’s incredibly difficult to earn 50 points at one time, but at the same time it’s improbably that you’re only going to earn 5 points. On average, I find that I usually earn either 15 or 75 points per spin.

Sweepstakes

The majority of the time there will be around 5 to 10 sweepstakes going on at once. Each sweepstakes costs 100 points to enter. Unfortunately, mPoints doesn’t tell you how many people have entered already, so you won’t know your chances of winning. What we can say is that chances are small since this app is already fairly popular.

Gift Cards

We will admit that the exchange rate for points to gift cards isn’t that great. For example, you need 5,000 points to claim a $2 gift card. The more points you save, the higher the value your points will be. You can find gift cards to retailers such as Ebay, Amazon, CVS, and Starbucks.

Physical Prizes

There are also a few physical products available for redemption such as jackets or gaming consoles. However, they’re usually expensive and not worth it. We suggest sticking with gift cards or sweepstakes.

Conclusion on Earnings

You’re definitely not going to get rich using the Punchcard App. Even though the exchange isn’t very good and you need a lot of receipts to claim just one price, scanning a receipt only takes a fews seconds. For this reason, we still find it worthwhile.

One thing you can do save all of your receipts throughout the week and then scan them all at once. This will save you a lot of time since you won’t have to continually open the app back and forth between purchases.

How Do I Get Started With Punchcard?

If you want to start using Punchcard, it only takes a few minutes to setup and start earning free cash. While it’s an incredibly simple process, we’re going to walk you through the steps in detail so you don’t miss anything.

1. Register.

You can download the Punchcard App by clicking this link here. Registration is completely free, and you can do it by entering in your email address or by using your Facebook account. Don’t forget to allow the app to access your location so it can view eligible stores in your area.

4. Scan your receipt.

Be sure to take a clear picture of your receipt. An easy way to do the is to place it on a flat surface. Furthermore, you’ll need to make sure to take a picture of the entire receipt in order to receive cash back from it. This needs to include the store name, location, items purchased and total purchase price. You must scan your receipt within 5 days of making your purchase.

5. Spin to earn points.

After you upload your receipt, you’ll be taken to the spin the wheel game. Spin and earn anywhere from 5 to 500 points per receipt. As mentioned above, I usually earn around either 15 or 75 points per spin. Although the earnings aren’t that great per receipt, each time you do this only takes a minute at most, especially once you get used to it.

6. Claim your rewards.

You need a minimum of 5,000 points before you can cash out. Remember, points are earned through Punchcard, but claimed for rewards through mPoints. While it’s a bit annoying, you can still get your rewards either way.

Other Ways To Earn Points With The Punchcard App

As mentioned above, you earn points through the Punchcard App, but claim them through mPoints. Click on the mPoints tab under the “Rewards” section in the Punchcard app to be redirected to another page. There will be a list of other ways to earn points.

First Achievement

Automatically earn 100 points just by using mPoints for the first time. Simply click on the button to claim them.

Post a Tweet

mPoints will give you a specific message to post to twitter. This usually rewards only 10 points.

mPLUS Rewards

If you want even more points, you can take a survey. This usually only takes a couple of minutes at most, and you get a chance to leave feedback for using mPoints. Most surveys pay around 30 – 50 mPoints.

Check-in

You can also earn points with PunchCard by checking-in at your local retailers. Each check-in gives you 5 points, and it only takes a second to do so. Just be sure to turn on your location settings for the Punchcard App.

What Are Other Apps That Pay You To Scan Receipts?

If you want to earn even more cash than just with the PunchCard App, there are plenty of other apps that pay you to scan receipts. We’re going to briefly mention our favorite 3 here.

The best part? These apps can be stacked with one another, meaning you can use more than one app to scan the same receipt and double or even triple your earnings! You can also view our list of 10 apps that pay you to scan receipts.

1. Ibotta

Ibotta is by far the most popular receipt scanning app out there. Originally intended to reward you for scanning grocery receipts, they’ve expanded to other categories such as restaurants, online shopping, electronics and more. Not only that, but you also get a $10 bonus when you use the referral code qFTVA and scan your first receipt within 30 days of downloading the app.

The real reason Ibotta is so great is because they’re partnered with lots of popular retailers and have plenty of offers. Unlike Punchcard, you get paid to scan certain items, rather than shopping at a particular place. For example, you can earn $.50 cents in cash back on a gallon of milk, or a few dollars off on a particular cleaning product.

Expect to earn anywhere from $.25 cents to $5 per item. If you want, you can claim more than one item per receipt, increasing your cash back earnings. There’s even a new feature that pays you to shop online through the apps of one of their partners such as Groupon or Best Buy.

2. bevRAGE

bevRAGe is definitely the funnest app on this list since it focuses specifically on alcohol. Earn cash back on wine, beer and liquor at restaurants, retailers and convenience stores. In fact, it doesn’t matter where you buy the alcohol, just as long as it’s listed on your receipt. Get a $2 bonus when you use the code FRUGAL upon scanning your first receipt.

The larger the city you live in, the more offers you’re going to have available. However, there are still plenty of offers for small-town users. Expect to earn anywhere from $1 – $3 per item scanned.

Although some offers require you to scan particular brands, often there are plenty of offers that only require a generic type of alcohol. For example, earn $3 in cash back when you scan a receipt that has any 24-pack of beer listed on it.

3. Checkout 51

Checkout 51 works along the same lines as Ibotta, but they don’t have as many offers available. However, the one thing that stands out about them is that it doesn’t matter where you buy your products, just as long as they show up on the receipt.

Expect to earn anywhere from $.25 cents to a few dollars per item. Furthermore, sometimes there are even offers for fruits and vegetables with Checkout 51. You need a minimum of $10 to cash out for gift cards or PayPal.

A lot of the offers on Checkout 51 are similar to the ones on Ibotta. If you’re going to be using one of these apps, you might as well check both apps so you can scan the same receipt and get paid twice.

Final Thoughts

We find that Punchcard is one of the better receipt scanning apps out there. This is mostly because they’re partnered with a wide variety of stores, even ones that you might not expect. Punchcard is definitely not a scam, as they always payout in time.

If anything, we highly suggest getting the Ibotta App as well since it’s one of the highest-paying receipt scanning apps out there. For those of you who have used Punchcard, we’d love to hear about your comments or questions down below. Thanks for reading and happy frugaling!
