Apps that pay you to unlock your phone screen are some of the best ways to make some extra cash. It requires almost no extra work on your part, and the pay is quite good for the amount of effort you put into them.
We’ve compiled a list of 7 apps that pay you to unlock your phone screen. These apps are in no particular order. See one that’s not on the list and should be? Let us know down in the comments below.
How Do Lockscreen Apps Work?
Apps that pay you to lock your phone are all very similar to one another. When you have one of these apps installed, each time you unlock your phone an ad will appear. You can swipe in one direction to go directly to your home screen (usually left), or you can swipe in another direction to view an ad (usually right).
Depending on the app, you may or may not get paid if you do not engage with the content. Some apps are more lenient and don’t care if you click on an ad – just as long as you see it once it’s enough.
Keep in mind that you won’t earn cash each time you unlock your phone. For that matter, don’t bother trying to constantly lock and unlock your phone for some extra cash. These apps all use complex algorithms to determine when you get paid, so we just suggest using your phone like you normally would.
The best part? These apps can be stacked with one another. If you have 2 or more lockscreen apps installed, you just have to pass through each one of them each time you unlock your phone. We highest recommend doing this in order to increase your earnings.
The one downside about these apps is that they only work for Android phones. This is because Apple strictly prohibits these type of apps on Apple devices. Let’s get straight into the list so you can start earning some extra cash.
BillsBoard is by far one of the best lock screen apps out there. The payout is great, and you automatically get a 250-point bonus just for signing-up as a new member.
What I like about BillsBoard compared to all of the other apps on this list is that it’s probably the least annoying. What this means is that the only difference when unlocking your phone is that there’s a small ad there.
Whether you engage in the ad or swipe right to unlock the ad, you get paid. This means there’s literally no extra work involved – the only thing you will notice upon unlocking your screen is a small ad image. You need a minimum of 1,500 points to cash out for $1 for a PayPal deposit or a gift card to Google Play, Amazon or Wal-Mart (this list may expand in the future).
We highly recommend saving more points before cashing out, since they become more valuable when you redeem a higher amount. For example, you can buy a $1 gift card with 1,500 points or a $5 gift card for 6,750 points – the second one is a much better value.
Adme has been around for a while, and boosts some of the highest earnings out of any other lockscreen app. While it’s not guaranteed that you’ll get paid each time you unlock your phone, out of all the apps on the list they probably pay the most consistently. I can easily earn an extra $10 per month at about $.02 cents per swipe, but of course that depends on your phone usage.
You can use the bonus code bNALpS6gKV to get a $1 sign-up bonus. When you refer someone else, you and your phone both get extra cash. Payments are made automatically to your PayPal account, but you need a minimum of $10 to receive payment. The great thing about this app is that you get paid whether you engage in an ad or not.
Fronto is definitely one of the most well-known lockscreen apps on the market. The content is a little more enticing with this app, as you can get paid to read news articles, participate in promotions, surveys or shopping. Unfortunately, you only get paid when you engage with their ads or content, meaning you can’t just swipe away. It’s really hard to determine when you get paid for engaging in content since it’s so random. Use bonus code GyCZTE to get a bonus of 1,250 points upon sign-up, and each time you refer a friend you also get the same amount.
What I love about Fronto is that there’s more than one way to earn money. You can also earn cash by downloading apps to your phone. Usually all you have to do is install the app, open it for about 10 seconds and then you can delete it from your phone and get paid. Combining both unlocking your screen and installing free apps can net you around $20 per month. Yet as far as unlocking your screen goes, Adme still takes the cake at first place. Your points can be exchanged for gift cards to popular retailers.
4. Perk Screen
Perk is a company that’s been around for the past couple of years that solely focuses on developing rewards apps. All of the apps are interconnected with one another, meaning if you earn points on one app, it will transfer over to another one. The Perk Screen App – also known as Unlock & Win by Perk – is the one that pays you to lock your phone. Only ads will appear when you unlock, and it doesn’t matter whether you engage in the ads or not to get paid.
You can also earn extra points by installing free apps to your phone. Just like with Fronto, all you have to do is download them, open them for a few seconds and from there you can uninstall them. I typically can earn about $5 – $10 per month, but their point system is constantly changing so it’s a bit difficult to determine exactly how much you can make. Other ways of earning on the app are by watching videos, sweepstakes or doing a quick survey. Don’t forget to activate your lockscreen when you install the app. Refer friends and get a bonus of 50 points.
Slidejoy is also one of the more popular lockscreen apps, but from personal experience they don’t tend to pay as much. If you’re someone who uses their phone quite a bit, expect to earn about $10 a month just from unlocking your phone. This is one of the lockscreen apps that pays you whether you engage in an ad or not. The one thing I find difficult to determine is when exactly you get paid as it’s quite random.
In order to check, log-in to your account and you will slowly see points being added up throughout the day. Just for registering as a new user you automatically get a bonus of 20 carats, and each carat is worth one cent. You need a minimum of $2 in carats to cash out to PayPal or for gift cards. Refer a friend and get a bonus of 100 carats for both you and your friend. Make sure to enable lockscreen once you install the app.
S’more is one of the newer lockscreen apps on the market, but that doesn’t mean they don’t pay well. What I love about this app is that you always will get $.10 cents per day just by having the app installed. It doesn’t even matter how many ads you engage with. You need a minimum of 150 points to cash out, and each point is worth $.01 cent. The one downside to this? You won’t get paid any extra. Use your phone once and you’re still going to get $.10 cents.
You can also earn points by taking surveys from brands, but this feature has yet to be released. As of right now, they don’t have any referral program currently going. If cash is what you’re looking for, this is probably not the right app for you. However, if you’re looking to make some easy money, you’re going to get $3 a month using the S’more app no matter how much you use it.
7. Whaff Locker
What I like about Whaff Locker is that you always know how much you’re going to get paid, and when you get paid. Each time you engage with an ad, $.03 cents is added to your account. Uncertain as to whether you’re going to get paid? If they don’t have cash available for you when you unlock your screen, they don’t give you an ad.
For this reason, it’s one of my favorite ads since they don’t waste any of your time unless they’re able to pay you. The one downside is that the payout isn’t high, and they don’t have payouts as frequently as other apps. They also have free-trial offers that you can participate in to earn some extra cash. Some of these are quite simple, such as filling out a survey or installing an app and testing it out. Use bonus code BQ17924 to get a bonus of $.30 cents upon sign-up for both you and your friend. of t
The last app on our list is the Moo Cash App, the newest on the list. You only get coins by swiping left and engaging in an ad. When you swipe right, you go directly to your home screen, and unfortunately you don’t get paid for this. This is the only app I’ve had extreme difficulties in determining how much I get paid. Nonetheless, it’s quite obvious that it’s the lowest among the lockscreen app. If your phone can’t handle several of these apps at a time, we suggest not installing this one. However, if you do decide to use it, don’t expect to make anymore than a few dollars per month.
Some other ways to earn some free cash are by installing apps and trying them out. Usually you can get anywhere from $.30 cents to $1 for doing so. You can also get coinsGet a bonus of 20 coins when you use code ROUEUC61 upon sign-up. Each time you refer a friend, you get a bonus of 300 coins. 1,000 coins is worth $1, and you need a minimum of 5,000 to cash out to PayPal or for gift cards to popular retailers.
Having all of these apps installed on your phone can easily net you an extra $50 per month just from unlocking your screen. Earn a bit extra by participating in other offers such as downloading apps and completing surveys.
You may have noticed that you install all 7 of these apps, it can be quite a hassle to unlock your screen since you may have to swipe 7 times. Not only that, but if you have a slow phone, it’s not going to be able to handle all of them.
Although it doesn’t take a tiny amount of effort to use these apps, the amount is so minimal that it’s basically like earning a passive income.
If you’re serious about earning cash by using these apps, we recommend at least getting a Samsung Galaxy S3. You can get refurbished one on Amazon for around $90, but you should be able to make that back in 2-3 months quite easily.
If you know of another app that’s not on this list and should be, we’d love to hear about it in the comments below. Thanks for reading and happy frugaling!
