If you haven’t already heard the news, this Wednesday on July 15th Amazon is holding an event that is much bigger than Black Friday: Prime Day. The reason for this celebration is to celebrate Amazon’s 20th anniversary, and for being one of the most successful online retailers.

Expect to find deals and discounts that will even rival those on Black Friday. We’re going to do a quick cover of what kind of deals you can expect to find, and then discuss how you can add even more to your savings.

1. How To View Deals Beforehand

Amazon won’t go into any specifics about what types of discounts will be offered on Prime Day. They have only mentioned that you can expect to find deals on electronics, toys, video games, clothing, movies, patio, sports, outdoor items, lawn & garden, and more. Unfortunately, this doesn’t really give us a clue as to what we’ll find.

The best way to get even the tiniest glance of what sales are to be expected is to view deals of the day. Deals of the day show discounts on the current day as well as deals that are up and coming. I recommend going to this page on July 14th to see what discounts are going to be on the following day, on July 15th.

2. Get Amazon Prime

Deals will only be available to members who are currently Amazon Prime members. At $99 a year, users get free two-day shipping, access to the kindle library and free movies, and other benefits. But even if you don’t want to pay this amount, you still have time to sign-up for their free 30-day trial.

You can click here to sign-up. If you’re still on the edge about whether to sign-up for Amazon Prime, you can read our breakdown on whether it’s worth it or not.

3. Look For Comparable Deals On Walmart

Walmart announced on Monday that they were going to fight against Prime Day by stating that you don’t have to pay a fee to get a discount. On July 15th, they’re also going to offer discounts that will be in comparison to Amazon’s Prime Day.

Walmart states that their sale will last for 90 days and include discounts in home, toys, baby and electronics. If you’ve read our post on how Walmart prices compare to Amazon, you should know that you’re going to find great deals on both sites.

Furthermore, instead of spending $50 dollars in order to qualify for free shipping on, you now only have to spend a minimum of $35. Be sure to check both sites back and forth for deals that you can find. In fact, by using the right tricks, you can get up to 12.5% off all purchases at Walmart online and in-store with the exception of produce.

4. Use An Online Shopping Portal

We can save even more on our purchases on Amazon by using what is called an online shopping portal. These portals offer affiliate links to partnered retailers and earn a commission every time they sell something. When you use their links, you earn a percentage of that commission.

For Amazon, there are lots of different shopping portals. We even wrote about which shopping portals are the best and how they compare. But for Amazon, the one we prefer is BeFrugal. You can sign-up for an account by clicking this link here.

Once you’ve got an account setup, type in Amazon in the search bar and you’ll see all of the different deals that they have to offer. From the image below we notice that we can get 8.5% cash back on Clothing, 6% cash back on Lawn & Garden, and 6% back on Pet Supplies.

Here are the current categories for which BeFrugal offers discounts through Amazon:

If you’re still confused on how a shopping portal works with Amazon, you can read this article here that will explain it in much more detail.

5. Get Products For Free

If you’ve been following the frugal blog lately, you would’ve noticed that you can get Amazon products for free or at a huge discount in exchange for leaving a review regarding the product that you purchase. This can be done using Amazon review sites such as Snagshout and AMZ Review Trader.

Before you buy anything on Prime Day, make sure to check out those two sites before making the final decision.

6. Get A Free $5 Dollar Gift Card

We recently wrote about how Amazon is giving away a free $5 gift card when you download their shopping app for the first time. All you have to do is log-in the app with your current username and password and wait up to 7 days. Usually you’ll receive this gift card a lot sooner, but it’s best to act as quickly as possible.

7. Buy Amazon Gift Cards At A Discount

If you’re going to prepare for Prime Day, you might as well try to get a little bit of extra savings. We mentioned in a previous article on how you can use Raise to buy Amazon Gift cards at a discount.

If you buy them at 3-4% off and use a credit card that gets you 2% cash back, you’re going to get 5%-6% off all Amazon gift cards you buy, thus getting you 5% or more off on your Amazon purchases.

Final Thoughts

There are many ways to save on Amazon, but with only two days left until Prime Day, we thought these would be the quickest methods. If you’re still looking at ways to save more money on Amazon, we recommend the following:
