6 Walmart Grocery Cashback Hacks That Will Save You Money

Want to Earn Some Extra Money?

Walmart does it again by offering a new service that makes shopping faster and easier than ever before. Now you can buy groceries online with a minimum purchase of $30. This includes anything from your box of cereal all the way down to your fruits and vegetables.

This service is only available in select cities (currently only 13), but Walmart mentioned that within the next couple of weeks they’re going to start expanding rapidly to other locations.

Online grocery orders don’t require a subscription, and all orders placed before 10 AM can be picked up in the same day. Place an order by 2 AM and you can have it ready to go by 8 AM. The only thing you have to do is go pick it up. I personally enjoy this because it saves me a lot of time, and waiting in line in Walmart always feels like an eternity.

Yet the best part about this new feature is that with online grocery shopping, we can now imply certain tricks and methods that will allow us to save 21.5% off of our online grocery orders. If I ever go shopping at Walmart, I’m going to make sure to place an order online first.

In order to save such a large amount, make sure to follow the steps below in order. Even if they don’t make sense now, by the time you get to the end everything should become clear.

1. Get A Cash Back Credit Card

We’re first going to want a credit card that gives us the highest amount of cash back on all purchases. You may be thinking that we should get one that gives us the highest amount back at supermarkets, but in order to get the maximum amount of savings, we’re not going to be buying Walmart groceries directly with a credit card.

The card that we recommend is the Citi Double Cash Card, one of the highest cash back credit cards on the market. You get 1% cash back each time you make a purchase, and an additional 1% every time you pay your bill. This comes out to a total of 2% in cash back. With no annual fee, you really can’t go wrong. Let’s take a quick glance at the card:

Apply Now

  • No annual fee
  • No cap on cash back earned
  • Free concierge service
  • Incredible Citi benefits
  • First late payment waived
  • 2% cash back on all purchases

If you’re still not comfortable with applying for this card or simply want another option, we also recommend either the Discover It Card or the Fidelity Card By Amex.

2. Sign-Up For Raise

This next step requires us to sign-up for Raise, an online gift card vendor that sells gift cards at a steep discount from their actual card value. When you sign-up, do not buy a gift card just yet. There are going to be a few more steps that you will need to follow in order to maximize your savings at Walmart.

Sign-up is easy and can be done by clicking this link here. Click on the Sign-Up link and enter your name and email to register.

TopCashback is an online shopping portal that pays you for online shopping. They’ve partnered with thousands of online retailers and have worked out a deal each time they get someone to buy something using one of their affiliate links. When you click the link and buy something, they’ll be given a commission and then give a majority back to you in the form of cash back.

You can sign-up by clicking this link here, and you’ll even be given a $10 bonus upon sign-up.

When you get registered and logged-in, search for “Raise” using their search bar, and a box should appear that shows that you get 2% off all purchases made on Raise. Click on the “Cashback” button to be redirected to the Raise website.

From here on out, a 2% cash back bonus will be given to you from all purchases made on the Raise website. The money will be deposited into your TopCashBack account, and you can withdraw it once you reach a minimum of $20.

4. Purchase Your Gift Card On Raise

Now you should be on the Raise website. Go ahead and log-in and search for “Walmart.” On average they should have gift cards that are around 3.5% off their full retail value. So if you buy a $100 dollar gift card to Walmart, you’re actually only paying $96.50 for it. Not bad for just a tiny bit of work.

When you go to make your gift card purchase, just be sure to use your Citi Double Cash Card that we mentioned above to save an additional 2%.

All e-gift cards are delivered within 24 hours, but usually you can find them in your inbox in about 1 or 2 hours.

So far, we’ve saved 2% using our credit card, 2% using a cash back portal, and another 3.5% by buying our gift card through an online gift card vendor for a total of 7.5%. Yet we can do even better.

5. Go Through The Cash Back Portal Again

We’ve already signed-up for a TopCashBack account again and used the portal to save on our gift card purchase, so why not do it again? All purchases made on Walmart using their portal will save you an additional 4%.

Go ahead and click on the “Get Cashback” link to be redirected to the Walmart webpage where we can finally make our final purchase. Select the items you want to purchase and add them to your cart.

From there proceed to checkout and enter in your gift card information from the discounted Walmart gift card that you bought on Raise.

Apply the gift card, make your final purchase, and enjoy your savings. If your gift card is just short of the total purchase amount, you can use the same steps above to buy another one, or simply use your credit card for the remainder of the purchase.

6. Apply A Discount Code

Walmart is holding a promotion that allows you to save an additional 10% off your first-time grocery purchase. When you get to the checkout page, enter in the code NEWORDER to apply the discount.

You have plenty of time to use the promo code, as the offer doesn’t expire until 1/31/16. Just make sure that you have a minimum of $30 in your cart or else the discount won’t be applied.

Even if it’s not your first-time purchase, you can use your friend’s account, or you can still save 11.5% each time you make a purchase, whether it be groceries or anything else that you need.

Recap – How Much Did We Save?

Let’s do a quick recap of how much we saved on grocery shopping at Walmart.

We Just Saved A Total Of 21.5%!!!

Final Thoughts

Saving 21.5% on your online grocery shopping at Walmart only applies to your first purchase. After that, you’re still going to be saving 11.5% which is still a great deal.

If you’re ever going to go grocery shopping at Walmart, be sure to do it online to get the additional savings through portals and gift card vendors. While it may seem like a long process at first, once you get used to it, I promise that it will only take a few minutes each time.

What items do you buy at Walmart on a frequent basis? I know I don’t purchase their produce, but I do buy other things. Let us know in the comments below. Thanks for reading any happy frugaling!

all % are wrong and whats worse walmart doesnt accep gifts cards on the grocery side of it. gonna have to go into store and purchase everything that was on my cart now because i already spent the money on the gift card :(

TopCashback doesn’t give cash back for Walmart GROCERY purchases. They specifically exclude groceries in the fine print at the bottom of the Walmart cash back % offer. So, this step does not work.
