11 Apps Like Ibotta That Pay You To Scan Receipts

Apps Like Ibotta

Ibotta is one of the most popular apps out there when it comes to saving money on groceries. However, you don’t have to stop there. Now there’s plenty of other apps like Ibotta out there that pay you to scan grocery receipts.

All of these apps are completely FREE, and the majority of them come with sign-up bonuses. See one that’s not on the list and should be? Feel free to let us know in the comments down below.

At the bottom, we include an extra bonus tutorial of another easy way to earn cash back with each purchase. With that said, let’s get started.

1. Shopkick

apps like ibotta shopkick

Shopkick was originally created to reward you for walking in stores and scanning barcodes at products in-store. They still have these options, but now you can earn cash from scanning your receipt for specific products that you purchase.

What makes Shopkick is its versatility, as there’s plenty of ways to earn. Furthermore, they recently added a new feature that allows you to link your credit card and earn points just for shopping at specific retailers.

You earn points with Shopkick called “kicks” that can be exchanged for gift cards or cool cash prizes. You need a minimum of $5 in kicks, and you get a 250 kick  ($.25 cents) bonus when you register.

Shopkick has gone a long way, and they’re always expanding. This is definitely one receipt scanning app you want to have on your list.

2. Fetch Rewards

  • Registration Bonus$1.50 with promo code HH3MN and scan first receipt
  • Join Fetch Rewards

apps like ibotta fetch rewards

Fetch Rewards is a fairly new player in the receipt scanning app category, but they’re already proving their worth. Receive anywhere between $.25 to $2 per offer on your receipt.

You can pass this $2 threshold by having more than one offer per receipt. Although the offers are somewhat quite limited right now since they’re fairly new, they’re quickly expanding. Furthermore, the payout is high compared to other apps on this list.

Right now get a $1.50 bonus when you register using promo code HH3MN and scan your first receipt. The best part? It doesn’t matter where you buy your groceries. As long as it shows up on the app you get paid.

3. BerryCart

  • Registration Bonus$2 with promo code 7xYw14Jb and scan first receipt
  • Join BerryCart

apps like ibotta berrycart

If you’re a healthy shopper or like to buy organic, non-GMO or other specialty groceries, BerryCart is the app for you. Their products trend more toward health-related products, something none of the other apps tend to have.

They even have a filtering system that lets you search for a specific health category such as dairy free, vegan or soy. BerryCart also has you covered with their built-in GPS system that tells you the available offers at stores near you.

Most of the items they have available tend to be a bit higher than other apps, ranging from $1 – $3. This is a great way to stick to a healthy diet and still get rewarded for it. Refer a friend and you both get a $2 bonus when they sign-up using your link and scan their first receipt.

4. Checkout 51

apps like ibotta checkout 51

Next to Ibotta, Checkout 51 is one of the most popular receipt scanning apps specifically for groceries. One huge difference is that with Checkout 51, it doesn’t matter where you make the purchase. As long as your receipt lists the item for the offer that you’re claiming, you’re bound to get cash back.

The offers with Checkout 51 aren’t as abundant as Ibotta, but you can still save a few dollars on specific items. They usually have groceries such as snacks, cleaning supplies and sometimes even fruits and vegetables.

New offers are available after every Thursday morning. If you claim an offer one week, be sure to check back the following week to find it again. This can be great for frequently purchased items. You need a minimum of $10 to cash out.

5. SavingStar

Although SavingStar doesn’t come with a registration bonus, it’s not one receipt scanning app that you want to disregard.

SavingStar was originally created to help you quickly earn discounts to your loyalty cards. When you log-in to your SavingStar account, you can electronically “clip” coupons. Link your loyalty cards to your account, and when you scan them at the store, the discount is automatically deducted from your receipt.

No printing and no paper. That’s what makes SavingStar so great. Now you can earn cash back for scanning receipts for specific products.

The great thing about this app is that while they don’t have as many offers as Ibotta, the payout is quite high compared to many apps on this list. It’s not uncommon to earn up to $2 per offer on your receipt.

6. MobiSave

mobisave what is

MobiSave is much newer to the table than Ibotta or Checkout51, but they still have some great deals. Expect to save anywhere from $.25 cents to $3 per each item that you get cash back on.

There aren’t as many offers as with other apps, but you can still find some common products such as pop tarts, coffee, jelly, eggs, windex and more. You can even browse their offers when you’re offline. If there are any new offers, they’ll appear once you have connection again.

The best part? You don’t need a minimum amount to cash out, and payments are automatically sent to your PayPal account once every 24 hours. Not only that, but you also get a $1 bonus for each friend you refer when they scan their first receipt.

7. ReceiptPal

receipt-pal-display

ReceiptPal is different from the other apps in that they pay you for your receipt rather than where you make the purchase or what you buy. This means that you can get paid for absolutely anything you buy, not just groceries like on the apps we’ve mentioned thus far.

The one downside to ReceiptPal is that the payout isn’t very high. You’re going to need to scan a lot of receipts before you’re able to make a lot of money. However, at just 350 points (4 receipts), you can still cash out for a $1 gift card.

If you’re willing to save, the more points you have the more valuable they become. There’s currently a limit to only being able to submit up to 20 receipts per week. Any receipt over 20 counts as an entry to their sweepstakes drawing.

8. Receipt Hog

receipt hog 1

This is another app like ReceiptPal that pays you not for any specific offer, just as long as you have the receipt. The one major difference, however, is that their offers are typically limited to grocery stores, convenience stores and gas stations.

Each time you scan a receipt you earn a certain amount of points that are used to play in their “Hog Slots” game. Play the game and randomly receive a certain amount coins that can be used for payouts. Receipt Hog will occasionally send you surveys and other offers for extra coins.

Last time we checked, Receipt Hog is not currently accepting any new members. However, be sure to check back often as they’ve mentioned that they’re willing to open this up fairly soon. Use bonus code to get 5 free spins toward Hog Slots.

9. Shopmium

shopmium-download

Update: Shopmium has become a part of the coupons.com network. Now you can earn cash and discounts for clipping coupons online.

Originally developed in France, the Shopmium app is great for saving on some of the more uncommon groceries. This includes items such as beef jerky, alcohol, protein powder and bagels

Offers are updated on a weekly basis. This app is also retailer-independent, meaning it doesn’t matter where you buy the product as long as it’s itemized on your receipt. Expect to earn anywhere from $.25 cents to a few dollars in cash back per product.

When you use the referral code KKKFFCEX upon sign-up you automatically qualify for a free Lindt Chocolate Bar.

10. Walmart Savings Catcher

savings catcher

This app only applies to products purchased at Walmart. They understand that sometimes you purchase products only to find out shortly after that you can get the product at a much cheaper price.

Instead of looking for cheaper deals in your area, the Walmart Savings Catcher App does this for you. Take a picture of your receipt, and Walmart automatically checks all the items listed to see if there’s a cheaper option in your area.

If Walmart finds an item that’s cheaper than what you paid for it at their store, they’ll refund you the difference. Keep in mind that their payouts are only in the form of Walmart Gift Cards. There’s no limit to the amount of receipts you can check.

11. PunchCard

apps like ibotta punchcard

PunchCard is a more recent receipt scanning app that pays you to shop at all of the frequent retailers. The best part? It doesn’t matter what you buy, just as long as you shop at specific stores.

Furthermore, not only do they have plenty of popular retailers, but they also have a lot of unexpected Mom & Pop stores you can earn cash back at.

While the amount you earn per receipt isn’t that great, you’d be surprised at what stores they actually have on their app. For that reason it’s worth giving it a try.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions that our readers ask us about using apps like Ibotta.

What needs to be listed on the receipt?

In general, you should try and take a picture of the entire receipt in order to avoid missing some important information. Most apps need to see the store name and address, date of purchase, itemized list of bought products and total purchase price.

The most important thing you can do is make sure that the receipt you scan is clear and readable. It usually helps to lie the receipt on a flat surface before taking a picture of it.

Can These Apps Be Used Together?

Yes. If you scan a receipt to Checkout51, you can use the same receipt and scan it to MobiSave to earn even more in cash back. The one thing you can’t do is scan the same receipt twice on the same app.

Do These Apps Have Referral Bonuses?

As of now, the only apps with referral bonuses are MobiSave, Ibotta, bevRAGE, Shopmium, BerryCart, Receipt Hog, Yaarlo and Shrink. The amount differs depending on the app that you’re using.

What’s Another Way To Earn Cash Back?

Scanning receipts is a great way to save some extra cash. Yet we’re going to throw you a bonus tip and tell you how to earn even more cash back when shopping online by using shopping portals.

Shopping portals are online websites that partner with thousands of retailers across the web and place their affiliate links onto one website. Click on one of these links to make a purchase, and they earn a commission. They give a portion (if not all of it) back to you in the form of cash back.

topcashback-how-it-works

Here’s a quick demonstration of how it works. We’re going to be using TopCashback as an example.

  1. Sign-up for a free TopCashback shopping portal account by clicking this link here. You even get a free $10 bonus for registering as a new user. We also recommend BeFrugal as a second choice.
  2. Use their search bar to search for a retailer of your choice. Right now they’re giving 8% cash back at Walmart (keep in mind that these rates frequently change).
  3. Click on the “Get Cashback” button to be redirected to the Walmart page. TopCashback will automatically track your purchase with browser cookie technology.
  4. Wait up to 10 days to receive the 8% in cash back (or whatever amount) in your TopCashback account. Keep in mind there are exceptions. For example, you won’t earn cash back on gift cards.
  5. Once you reach a minimum balance of $10 in earned cash back, you can cash out to PayPal or for gift cards of your choice.
  6. The amount of cash back entirely depends on the retailer you’re shopping at.

You usually need a minimum of $10 in earned cash back before you can withdraw to PayPal or gift cards across all portals. Most of them give a generous sign-up bonus. If you’d like to see more portals, you can view our top 10 shopping portal list.

These 11 apps like Ibotta are a great way to earn some extra side cash just for scanning receipts. It’s not uncommon for me to save an extra $10 – $20 per month for each app. Just be sure to check back weekly as new offers are always available.
