How We Review Money Making Platforms
The exact criteria, verification steps, and honesty rules behind every review and roundup we publish.
What We Evaluate
Every platform we cover is judged on the same five factors, whether it appears in a full review or a roundup.
Legitimacy
Established payout history, real user reviews on independent sites, and terms that don't hide surprises.
Pay Rate
Realistic earnings per task and per hour. We publish typical ranges, not the "up to" marketing numbers.
Payout Options
How you actually get your money: PayPal, direct deposit, Venmo, Payoneer, gift cards, or debit-card cashout, and the minimum required.
Barrier to Entry
Free to join, no paid "starter kits," and minimal approval friction. Anything that charges you to work is disqualified.
Availability
Open to US workers at a minimum, with global access noted where it applies.
How We Verify
We visit every site before we recommend it. Screenshots in our roundups are captured directly from each platform's live homepage, and we confirm signup is actually open before a platform earns a spot.
We remove platforms that die. When a service shuts down or its site goes offline, we pull it from our lists and replace it with a working alternative. For example, we removed Shopkick from our recommendations after it shut down in March 2026.
We prefer official numbers. Where a platform publishes its own pay rates or payout policies, we link to and cite that page rather than repeating second-hand figures.
We say what's wrong, not just what's right. Reviews include the downsides: pending periods, screen-outs, fees, and earning ceilings, so you know what to expect before you sign up.
How We Make Money
Some links on Frugal For Less are affiliate links. If you sign up through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
Commissions never decide our rankings. Platforms cannot pay for a higher spot, and we recommend plenty of services that pay us nothing because they're the right pick for readers.
You can read the full details in our affiliate disclosure.
Updates & Corrections
Every article shows a "Last Updated" date, and we revisit our most-read guides to keep rates, links, and platform details current.
