6. Lyft

Here is everything you need to know about driving for Lyft.

Lyft is very similar to Uber. As a Lyft driver, you’ll be paid to pickup or drop off customers. It’s a super flexible job, allowing you to work whenever you want. A perfect gig for:

  • College students
  • Stay at home parents
  • Retirees
  • Corporates looking for a side hustle
  • Anybody who wants to earn extra money

Lyft started in 2012 and has grown by leaps and bounds since then.

As a Lyft driver, you’ll be considered self-employed, not an employee. Drivers work using the Lyft app. The app does it all, allowing drivers to see how far away their rider is, review their ratings, car info, and more.

In order to drive for Lyft, there are some requirements that should be met:

  • You must be 21 years old or older
  • You must pass a DMV check and background check
  • You must use either an Android or iPhone smartphone
  • You must have your driver’s license for a minimum of one year
  • You must provide proof of valid insurance
  • You must provide proof of a car inspection
  • You must provide a photo of yourself
  • You must have valid license plates
  • You must have current registration

The pay can vary from driver to driver, based on so many different factors including time worked, how frequently you drive, etc. Their Driver Pay estimate can actually estimate your earnings so check it out if you’re curious how much you’ll earn.

There’s also the opportunity to earn extra money through bonuses and tips.

7. Amazon Flex

Drive for Amazon Flex. If you have interest in delivering Amazon packages, you will want to hear about Amazon Flex.

An an independent contractor delivery driver for the Amazon Flex program, you will pick up packages from the Amazon warehouse and deliver those orders to Amazon customers. These are Amazon Prime, Prime Now, Amazon Locker, Amazon Fresh orders, and more.

Each shift is called a delivery block. This is how you will be paid. Delivery blocks are 3 to 6 hours long and Amazon will schedule these blocks for you, based on availability. If your availability changes, you’ll have the ability to take on more hours, if you’d like.

While working, you’ll be connected to Amazon’s app, where you’ll get all the information you need to do your job, including:

  • Important announcements
  • Where to pickup orders
  • Customer addresses
  • And, more!

You can also track your earnings right from the app.

  • You must have a Social Security Number

  • You must have proof of auto insurance
  • You must pass a background check

8. UberEATS

Deliver food to hungry customers working at around $11/hour as an UberEATS delivery driver.

In today’s gig economy, never have there been so many opportunities for people to earn from the comfort of home or the comfort of their car.

While food delivery jobs aren’t new, this kind of job is a little different, as you’ll be bussing from one restaurant to another, picking up and delivering food orders to customers.

To share a bit about UberEATS, it’s a food delivery service connecting third-party vendors (restaurants and food establishments) with customers. Customers place an order with UberEATS, who is connected with local restaurants in your area, and the order is sent to the restaurant to be made.

Then, the UberEATS driver picks up the customer order and delivers to the customer. Easy day.

This low-stress job is a great way to earn extra money or pay your primary bills. I have a family member who had a similar delivery job and was able to work evenings, while he took care of his small child during the day and go to school. He loved how flexible his job was, while having the freedom to be on the go, rather than chained to a desk job.

UberEATS works through an app system, like Amazon Flex. The app will track deliveries and give drivers all the info needed to perform their job well.

Drivers are paid per delivery and they earn through tips.

Learn more about UberEATS.

9. Postmates

Postmates was started in 2011, as an online service connecting consumers with delivery drivers. As a Postmates courier, you’ll work as an independent contractor picking up goods from local establishments and delivering to customers.

The service is available in 550 cities, processing more than 3 million orders monthly.

This job is very flexible, allowing couriers to work whenever they want, with no minimum and no maximum hours required to work.

This gig is similar to the other delivery gigs mentioned above:

  • Flexible hours
  • Work from an app
  • Pay-per-delivery
  • Bonus payments via customer tips (keep 100% of tips)
  • Driver requirements that many people can meet

Here are the courier/driver requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must have access to an insured vehicle
  • You must have a valid U.S. driver’s license
  • You must pass a background check
  • You must own an Android or iPhone
  • You must have valid insurance

Postmates driver pay is based on several factors and rates vary according to your city.

The calculation looks like this:

X per pickup + X per drop off + X per minute waited at pickup location + X per mile for the distance between pickup and drop off locations

According to Indeed, drivers earn an average of $24.61/hour.

According to The Rideshare Guy, earnings reported were $12.97/hour.

An average of the two is $18.79/hour.

You can get paid in one of two ways:

1.) Direct Deposit

2.) Instant deposit to debit card

Direct deposits can take up to 24 to 72 hours to process to your bank, while instant deposit takes up to 15 to 30 minutes for processing, plus a $.50 fee per instant deposit cash out.
